Sri Venkataramana Temple, Karkala

The Gouda Saraswat Brahmins, who migrated from Goa during the 14th century, settled in this region and significantly contributed to the local economy through trade, agriculture, and industry. One of their greatest legacies is the Sri Venkataramana Temple, Karkala, an ancient and revered shrine with a history of about 600 years. Built in the traditional style, the temple continues to attract devotees and tourists alike and is fondly known as “Padu Tirupati.” The rites and rituals performed here closely resemble those at Tirumala.

The daily Pooja Viniyogas, Panchaparvas, and Mahotsavas are conducted with great devotion and dignity. A hallmark of this temple is its emphasis on “Selfless Service,” a tradition deeply imbibed and practiced by all. Those who worship Lord Sri Venkataramana of Karkala are believed to be truly blessed by His Divine Grace.

Beyond a
Spiritual Center

The temple has always been more than just a place of worship — it has consistently extended its support to academic, cultural, social, and religious causes for the welfare of people in Karkala and beyond.

With remarkable foresight, the Board of Trustees of Shree Venkataramana Temple established Hindu Balika Pathashala in 1909 for the education of the Girl Child—a truly pioneering initiative for that era. Today, it has grown into an exclusive Women’s College, along with a comprehensive Montessori-to-Pre-University co-educational institutions.

Carrying forward this vision, the temple has generously supported many noble initiatives by providing acres of its valuable land on lease. Some of these include:

Sri Bhuvanendra College

Karkala - 574 104.
An Arts, Science and Commerce College founded in 1960 and affiliated Mangalore University.

Vatsalya Seva Trust (Old Age Home)

Sheshadri Nagar, Tellar Road,
Karkala - 574 104.

Sri Venkataramana Gow Shala Trust

Thus, the temple continues to serve as a guiding light—nurturing not only spiritual growth but also education, healthcare, social service, and community welfare.
